Is a winter wedding in Austria a dream of yours? Do you envision it with beautiful winter sun, snow, mountains, and that quintessential Alpine atmosphere? Unfortunately, we do not see these types of weddings very often yet. Getting married in Austria in the winter is beyond beautiful! In this article, you can read more about mountain weddings. Naturally, you can view images here that we captured in the snow. Are you starting to feel excited about planning your own wedding day in the Alps?
Getting Married in Austria
As winter sports enthusiasts, we love being in the snow. I have been on skis since I was a young boy and have been a passionate snowboarder since 2000. It is so beautiful—the mountains, the snow, the warmth of the fireplace, and of course, the local cuisine. These factors create a unique atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else. Especially when traveling from the Netherlands to Austria with a group to experience a wedding weekend together. This will create a memory that everyone will cherish for many years to come.
In recent years, we have gained extensive experience in photographing and filming weddings abroad.
Particularly in cold environments such as Austria, Switzerland, and Iceland, this requires a different approach. While we can dress warmly, it is absolutely essential to ensure the couple remains comfortable. Thanks to our experience, we know exactly how to make the most of the conditions to capture the most beautiful imagery.

Planning
Are you planning a wedding weekend in Austria? If so, many choices must be made. This begins with selecting the wedding venue, the guest list, and of course, other vendors. Perhaps some of your guests would enjoy staying longer for a few days of skiing? It is important to consider guests who are older, less able to travel, or have mobility issues. They are more susceptible to the cold and slippery conditions; how will you ensure the experience is as enjoyable as possible for everyone?
It is highly advisable to review your plans and wishes with a wedding planner. A wedding planner has extensive experience and often has solutions ready for all potential challenges.
Together, you can explore options that best align with your wishes. Negotiations with venues and the fulfillment of agreements can sometimes differ significantly from what you may be accustomed to in the Netherlands. We have heard many unusual stories… unpleasant surprises that you would naturally prefer to avoid.
As inspiration for planning your “destination wedding,” we are happy to share our experiences. We have extensive expertise, and many couples opt for a similar schedule for a relaxed three-day wedding.
Wedding Weekend Day 1
Guests arrive at the venue and can check in at their leisure. In the evening, a relaxed “casual dinner” usually follows, where all guests can greet one another. Friends and family members do not always know each other. How wonderful is it for them to get to know one another in a relaxed setting with mulled wine and a crackling fire? Truly relaxing.
Wedding Weekend Day 2
This is typically the wedding day, and the morning often begins with a pleasant breakfast. This usually takes place at the house or hotel where the guests are staying. After breakfast, the couple is the first to prepare for the wedding day. Following this, we often accompany the couple to a beautiful location in the valley or at the top of the mountain. Here, we take advantage of the beautiful light and serene surroundings. We capture the most stunning imagery while you enjoy each other, the environment, and the moment.
Guests can prepare for the ceremony and travel to the wedding venue. This is often an authentic hut or a beautiful location halfway up the mountain. Due to the wind, it is often too chilly at the very top. However, halfway up the mountain in the sun, it can be absolutely delightful, especially in March or April. After the ceremony, there is often a champagne toast accompanied by apple strudel. Naturally, you could also choose to have a wedding cake made and cut it together.
For the dinner and party, it is practical to head toward the valley. This ensures that guests do not have to navigate the mountain after a few glasses of wine. Furthermore, at many mountain stations, it is not possible to take the lift down after 4:00 PM. This would leave you dependent on skis or sleds. While that can be fun, not everyone attending a wedding ceremony in formal attire will expect it. It is important to communicate this clearly to your guests if you are getting married in Austria. Proper planning and clear communication are essential.
Wedding Weekend Day 3
This day is often used to conclude together with a pleasant brunch on the mountain. Those who enjoy winter sports will love using this day to head into the mountains for a walk or a final ski session.
After a weekend like this, everyone will be talking about your wedding for a long time to come!

Want to see more imagery?
Have you gained a good impression of our work in the snow and are you curious to see more? We can, of course, also plan a shoot before your wedding day. We call this a Loveshoot, and these images can be used for your invitations, thank-you cards, and, if you wish, for your own wedding website.
You can, of course, see many more images in our portfolio from our Loveshoots and our Wedding Photography
We photograph and film weddings all over the world. A separate photo shoot after your wedding day is also possible, anywhere in the world. We call this a Beyond Wedding Shoot, and it can take place at any time after your wedding day. Some couples choose to do this within a few months. We have also experienced a couple who, five years after their wedding, wanted to do something cool in their wedding attire that wasn’t possible on the wedding day itself. Think of an underwater shoot in the sea or, for example, in a desert…
Anything is possible.
