Getting Married in Italy
Bas Uijlings has been a professional photographer since 2002 and has been capturing weddings through photography and film since 2009. With over 600 weddings captured worldwide, he possesses extensive experience in luxury and destination weddings. Italy is a particularly special destination, ranging from Northern Italy and Lake Garda to Lake Como, Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast, and Puglia.
For many couples, getting married in Italy means a multi-day destination wedding at an extraordinary location. Imagine a luxury wedding at Lake Como at Villa del Balbianello, Villa d’Este, or Villa Erba; a stylish wedding in Puglia at Borgo Egnazia; or a private villa in Umbria. Tuscany, Venice, Capri, Ravello, Positano, Florence, and Rome are also highly sought-after destinations for an Italian wedding.
Italy as a Destination Wedding Location
An Italian wedding is often much more than a single day. Family and friends travel to Italy together, turning the days surrounding the wedding into a complete experience. A welcome dinner, a relaxed day by the pool, the ceremony, an extensive Italian feast, and a grand party can all be part of the same destination wedding experience.
It is precisely during such multi-day weddings that space is created for imagery that goes beyond the ceremony alone. The atmosphere, the surroundings, the people, and the candid moments in between together tell the authentic story of your marriage.

Getting Married in Umbria & Assisi
Umbria is a remarkable destination for an Italian destination wedding. Samantha and Gert-Jan were married in the Assisi area, with several days filled with special moments surrounding their union.
The weekend began in Assisi, starting with a civil ceremony at the town hall followed by lunch. The party then moved to “Il Castello di Campolongo” for a pizza welcome dinner. The following day, the ceremony took place in the garden by the pool, overlooking the rolling Italian hills.
Following the first look, the day continued with the ceremony, prosecco in the rose garden, and a sunset photo session. Dinner was served al fresco, followed by speeches, a unique cheese wedding cake, and a party featuring the band of Meike van der Veer.
Thanks to Inge and Nikki from Big Days Weddings, everything was executed to perfection. It was truly a wedding that you wished would never end.

Getting Married in Puglia
Puglia is a beloved destination for an Italian destination wedding. The iconic Trulli, ancient olive trees, the warm climate, and the stunning masserias give a wedding a completely unique character.
For a multi-day wedding, locations such as Monopoli, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni, Alberobello, Lecce, and the Valle d’Itria are captivating destinations. Borgo Egnazia is also internationally renowned as a luxury wedding venue in Puglia.
We captured a multi-day wedding in the Monopoli area. Upon arrival in Puglia, the weekend began with a relaxed pizza welcome dinner. The following days were dedicated to the preparations, the ceremony, a dinner under the Italian sun, and a party that lasted late into the night.

Review Conny & Floris: “Bas is creative, energetic, and works with the latest techniques. During our three-day Italian wedding, he managed to capture the atmosphere fantastically from start to finish.”

Getting Married in Northern Italy and Veneto
One of our first Italian weddings took place in 2017 in the Veneto region, not far from Venice. The bride was Italian, the groom Dutch, and the entire day was infused with a beautiful Italian atmosphere.
After preparations in an Italian hotel, we drove a classic Jaguar to the church. The ceremony was conducted largely in Italian, with a Dutch priest present for the blessing. Afterwards, we walked through the historic center of Thiene and took photos in the park and around the ancient streets.
The wedding day was quintessentially Italian and transitioned into an extensive Italian lunch, drinks, dinner, and party. During the meal, our Same Day Edit was already shown, making photography and film an immediate part of the day’s experience.

Getting Married at an Extraordinary Location in Italy?
Due to confidentiality and privacy agreements, we are unable to publish many of our recent weddings. We fully respect this, though it means we cannot showcase several extraordinary weddings despite our great desire to do so.
Therefore, below are some Italian destinations where we would love to share more of our work. Are you getting married at one of these locations? We would be delighted to discuss your vision.
Luxury Weddings at Lake Como
Lago di Como is one of the most renowned destinations for luxury destination weddings in Italy. We have worked here for a wedding, but we do not share these images out of respect for our clients’ privacy.
Famous wedding venues around the lake include Villa del Balbianello, Villa Erba, and Villa Pizzo. The nearby Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore are also favorites for couples wishing to marry in Northern Italy.
A destination wedding at an Italian lake is about more than just the wedding day. The surroundings, dinners, boat trips, and time spent with guests become part of a multi-day experience.
Getting Married on the Amalfi Coast and Capri
On the Amalfi Coast, a destination wedding takes on a completely different character. The coastline, cliffs, sea, and colorful towns like Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Sorrento provide a stunning backdrop.
Capri is also an exceptional destination for an Italian wedding. A ceremony with sea views, a sunset dinner, or a photo session in the narrow streets can become part of your multi-day wedding experience.
Those choosing Southern Italy might also consider getting married in Sicily, another remarkably beautiful Italian wedding destination.
Getting Married in Tuscany
Tuscany is one of the most iconic regions for a romantic destination wedding in Italy. The rolling hills, cypresses, vineyards, and historic country houses form a natural setting for a multi-day wedding.
Furthermore, many couples choose to schedule their photo session on day four or five as a Beyond Wedding Shoot. Anything is possible then; the attire can get dirty if desired, and there is peace and plenty of time for an extraordinary shoot during sunset.
We have had the privilege of capturing many beautiful moments here as well.
An Italian Wedding Requires Experience
During a destination wedding, photography and film move in sync with the itinerary. Often, our reportage begins at the welcome dinner and only concludes several days later, for example, at a relaxed breakfast with family and friends the morning after the wedding.
Furthermore, many couples choose to schedule their photo session on day four or five as a Beyond Wedding Shoot. At this stage, anything is possible; the attire may even get dirty, and there is ample time and tranquility for an extraordinary shoot during sunset.
Because family and friends are often together for several days, a strong bond is formed. We blend in with the guests so that we remain unobtrusive, allowing everyone to be themselves and fully enjoy the beautiful moments.
During our Italian weddings, we provide photography and film from one team, one company, and one style. This ensures that the story of your wedding is captured as a cohesive whole.
Wedding Photography and Film in Italy
Your Italian wedding deserves imagery that shows not just what the day looked like, but primarily how it felt. That is why we photograph and film not only from the ground but also deploy drones where possible for spectacular perspectives.
From the preparations and the ceremony to the dinner, speeches, and the party, we capture the day as it truly unfolds. As little posing or pre-planned direction as possible. Simply ‘be’ and enjoy; we will take care of your memories.
